Watch me try something new!

Join me as I try alcohol inks for the very first time! I wanted to color some of the metal elements for my new mini car album. Also, I decided I should probably have at least touched alcohol inks before I go to my Exploring alcohol inks class with Tim Holtz. Probably should try it before I explore it right?

I also played a bit and tried the alcohol inks on some things I had lying around and was pleasantly surprised at how good they turned out and how easy! I show a great way to make your own colored staples. I am now imagining all different types I can make, multicolored, green with yellows, reds and oranges...limitless and cheap!!! I love learning new techniques and trying new things with them.

What is a new technique you have tried lately and what were your results?

  1. Amy,
LOVE the alcohol inks!!! I found for me using a small drop of the blending solution on the felt before I put the ink in the felt makes it easier to blend on item that aren't flat?? Dont know why?? Also, you can use regular drug store alcohol to clean up your craft mat and your fingers, and save the expensive blending solution for projects. I have also discovered that I don't need to buy the felt pads for my blender, I just buy the $.33 felt sheet and cut it to fit and it works great, the cheaper kind is better it doesn't shed.
Have you played with the mixatives yet (the metals)? they are wonderful. The paperbag book that I made and posted I made a box for it to fit into and it was plain white and I "covered" it in alcohol inks and I love the way it came out. I have also used my espresso to cover the arms of my patio chairs where the paint has chipped off and it looks great. I've played around with the idea of decorating my backsplash tile in my kitchen with them as well but I'm not convinced of the durability.
One of these days I would love to get ahold of some of the refillable pens to create my own Copic markers out of the inks. You are going to have so much fun playing with T!m, I'm soooo jealous.
    Have fun creating!

  2. Jill,
Thanks so much for the tip on the cleaning of hands. If you could see mine right now they are blue! I haven't purchused the blending solution yet but that and the mixatives are next on my list. They were really fun and I loved your paperbag book! So clever to use it on household items! Thanks for the tips!

  3. Hi Amy! I just subscribed to your blog. :-) Thank you for all your sweet comments on my videos. I'm so thrilled that you tried out alcohol inks, aren't they so fun?! I love Ranger products and am learning so much as I go too! :-) One technique that I just tried out this morning and will most likely use on my August GGS mini...

Stamp an image on your project. Get your Stamp-a-ma-jig and stamp the same image on the sheet it comes with. Line up the stamped image on your Stamp-a-ma-jig sheet to the image you stamped on your project. Then stamp Versamark over the stamped image on your project. Apply clear deep impressions embossing powder (or UTEE), heat set and Voila! You will have an embossed image without the long wait when using Glossy Accents! You can make your own "epoxy" looking images. Hope you try it out. It's so much fun! :-)

Have a great weekend, and be sure to check my blog for my first blog candy starting tomorrow, Aug 1st! :-)

    hugs,
    Arlene :-)
